When walking into Mitch Springer’s BFA ceramic exhibition, I was taken away by the strong fragile ceramic paintings. It took a little time to adjust to the fact that all the artwork hanging were not just paintings, but ceramic. Springer has created a new form of ceramics by messing around within the original ceramic ways, yet step outside to expand the mineral transformation space. Stepping outside the box allowed these new pieces to come out with no idea on how they will turn out.
Springer has had to work with the kiln in order to not break the large pieces and has customized his own style. Springer is still growing along with his pieces. It’s exciting seeing this new style of ceramic paintings. It seems that the possibilities of ceramics is endless.
